Mason jars are everywhere! I have seen these wall sconces all over Pinterest and Etsy and I happen to think they are super cute. Here is my how-to.
I found a bunch of this reclaimed barn wood at a local flea market so I thought it would be perfect for the board behind my mason jars. |
Cut board to the correct length that you want. Mine is about 47" long and it fit 5 large mason jars. |
Mark where you will put the jars and drill a hole there. Make sure you measure between the jars so they are spread out evenly. |
Next you need pipe clamps like this one. I bought the wrong kind that didn't have a hole on the side for the screw to go into, but I worked with what I had and drilled a hole in the backs of these. Make it easy on yourself and buy the kind with and opening on the side of the clamp. Make sure you also buy the right size of clamps. I took a jar with me to the store to make sure the clamps would fit tightly around them. They can be found at Lowes.
It was easiest for me to clamp the board to my workbench and attach the pipe clamps to the board. I attached to clamps with a screw and bolt on the back to make sure it wasn't going anywhere. Now, when you go to put the jars in the clamps you will notice they start to tip backwards because the shape of the jars. A quick fix is to put a piece of wood between the jar and clamp (in the back so you can't see it) and tighten the clamp as tight as it will go. This part was a little tricky to hold to wood and jar and tighten at the same time, but you'll get the hang of it. Next, you just nail picture hangers on the back and hang it on the wall.
